Berlin the city was deep within the Soviet controlled area. The Allies (United States, Britain, and France) believed that its position was an unfair advantage to the Soviets. They believed this because Berlin was the only large city of the time. Part of the agreement was that Berlin was to be divided into four sectors. Again the Allies joined their three parts together to form West Berlin. The Soviet part was called East Berlin and was the capital city of East Germany. The fact that the Allied part of Berlin was completely surrounded by Soviet land turned out to become a difficult situation.
